Time For A Change In Terms Of The Leading Flat Trainer Of The Year Title

Amazing to think the champion flat jockey is decided on winners, but as regards the trainers title this is always decided on prize money won in a calendar year. Now should be the time for change and make the leading trainer award decided on winners.

It seems somewhat bizarre that just a couple of weeks ago we were celebrating champions of the racing world at Champions Day at Ascot.

Billy Loughnane was deservedly crowned champion flat jockey with Jack Callan claiming the coveted champion apprentice title. However, we still couldn’t salute the trainer of the year as this is decided at the end of the year.

Running from January 1st till December 31st this title is decided on prize money. Aidan O'Brien sits in pole position as this piece is being penned after a double recently at Doncaster which put the gap between himself and Andrew Balding to £200,000.
