Lucas Murphy rode his first ever winner over fences when he partnered Viroflay to victory for Paul Nicholls in the Sodexo Live Regal Encore Handicap Chase at Ascot on Saturday.

Viroflay, was last seen on a course back in May after winning at Newton Abbot. The nine-year-old was in the lead for much of the race before being headed by Tapley five fences out, but battled back to lead two out and kept on gamely to hold off Your Darling by three quarters of a length.

Murphy, the 17-year-old son of Grade 1-winning jump jockey Timmy, had ridden four winners over hurdles before and enjoyed his Ascot experience over fences, after partnering Jet To Vegas to a second place finish with Aeros Boy finishing tenth earlier on the card.
