Top jockey Brendan Powell was rushed to hospital after he suffered a "horrible" fall at the first fence in a race at Plumpton earlier today.

Powell, who has already ridden 26 winners in the 2026-27 season so far, came off Diamond Days when the Joe Tizzard-trained chaser made a mistake at the first fence in the 2m 3f novices' handicap chase.

Powell tried to stay aboard the 5-1 chance but ended up slipping out of the saddle and appeared to catch his mount's reins and the pair went into the rails with Powell coming out the worst of the pair, with medics rushing quickly to the rider’s side.
